A guard of honour will be accorded to the Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, when he arrives at Nausori Airport today.

This will be Mr Morrison’s first official visit to the country since he took office. Former Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, was the last PM to visit Fiji in 2006 for a meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum.

He is expected to arrive at 11.30am and will be received by the Minister for Defence and National Security, Inia Seruiratu, and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto.

After the inspection of the guard of honour, Mr Morrison and wife Jenny will be escorted to the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

They would be received by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and accorded a traditional welcoming ceremony followed by a private lunch. At 3pm Mr Morrison will pay a courtesy call on the President, Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote at Borron House.

He will then attend a wreath laying ceremony at the National War Memorial.

Also at 3pm Mrs Morrison will visit the Fiji Museum and the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, accompanied by Mary Bainimarama.

Tomorrow, Mr Morrison will attend a National Rugby League event before delivering his keynote address at the University of the South Pacific.

He will also visit the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) at the Fiji National University (FNU) before leaving for Nadi at 11.30am.

In Nadi, Mr Morrison will visit the RFMF training camp at Blackrock.

Mr Morrison and his wife will leave Nadi International Airport at 3.40pm tomorrow.
