The Rusila Nagasau captained-Fiji Airways Fijiana Development side are tipped to walk away with the Outrigger Fiji Na–Iri Women’s Trophy during the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens tournament at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka today.

With the return of the Fiji Airways Fijiana XVs reps, the side bonded well as they hammered Outrigger Knights 40-0, Lautoka Crusaders 47-0.

In their final pool game they were forced to a 7-7 draw against Marist Seahawks who had taken an early 7-0 lead.

“We did miss the title last year so we’re back,” Nagasau said.

“For us we’re taking each team at a time and we’re treating each game as the final.”

Nagasau said players are putting their hands up to represent the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side to the Sydney tournament and beyond.

“We expect the coach to name the team after this tournament so we’re going to play our hearts out.”

Other players who have returned to the fold are lanky Asinate Savu, Ana Roqica, Tokasa Seniyasi, Merewalesi Rokovono, Lavenia Tinai, Ana Maria Neimasa, Vasiti Solokoviti and Luisa Tisolo.

Also on track are defending champions Striders after their wins over Fiji Airports Nadi Blazers 24 -0, Marist Seahawks Two 26-0 and Marist Seahawks One 17-0.

The side have top players like Bulou Mataitoga, Mere Moto, Alisi Komaitai, Laisa Taga and Tima Ravisa.

Captain Timaima Ravisa said they had a good day one.

“We’re out to show showcase our young talents. Tomorrow will be another day and I guess we have to lift our game and not to underestimate other teams like the Fijiana which is not a development side. We are looking forward to meeting them.”

The competition continues this morning with the finals in the afternoon.
