SODELPA Member of Parliament Mosese Bulitavu, believes that holding public consultations in the interior of the Northern Division will ensure greater contribution from members of communities.

Mr Bulitavu is a member of the Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights, conducting public submissions on the Code of Conduct Bill No 33 of 2018 in Savusavu yesterday.

“It is important that we reach out to everyone in the communities,” he said.

“What we want is for the public to know that we are here.”

Mr Bulitavu said that the divisional staff had been helpful towards reaching out towards communities, however it was equally important to reach out to a maximum number of people.

“People generally come, sit and hear the discussions and this is the best time for them to contribute,” Mr Bulitavu said.

“We need more stakeholder participation in order to raise more awareness on the bill,” he said.

Mr Bulitavu said that he had also suggested to the committee on the possible ventures that could be undertaken.

“Capturing as many views on a particular bill is really important,” he said.

The SODELPA MP said that this would also eliminate the possibility of people turning up and saying that they hadn’t been told about it.

He said that the general public would become the watch-dog of the society and would be elemental in disseminating information to the commission relating to the bill and its breaches.

Mr Bulitavu also acknowledged that moving forward with the idea would also need some time to be effective due to the busy schedule of the committee.

“But we need to re-prioritize ourselves into the law making processes,” he said.

Mr Bulitavu said that the Northern Division tour turned out well for the committee members.
