Fijian Under-18 rep Josevata Nalaqwa and Taniela Rakuro scored a try each in the second half as Tuva Youths retained the Shangri-La’s Youth Trophy during the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens tournament at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka yesterday.

They beat arch rivals Ratu Filise 10-0 after a scoreless first half in a water-logged park.

Tuva midway in the first half suffered a blow when captain and New Zealand based- Aisea Tuifelehaki was stretched off the field after he injured his ankle.

They didn‘t lose hope but to set- up two tries. Nalaqwa managed to dot down the first try in the corner before Rakuro ran 50 metres untouched to score the final try.

The side also had the services of Ilaisa Droahehe (a member of the Australian U18), Inoke Nalaga (Fijian U18) and Ilikima Naruma (Ratu Kadavulevu School U18).

“We only got together in one week and it was a sweet victory as we retained the title,” Tuifelehaki said.

“We made our mind in the first match that we were to stick by our plans of retaining the title.

“Ratu Filise was a worthy opponent as they had been there over the years.”

Tuva Youths dumped Gaunavou 29-5 in the Cup quarterfinals and edged out Ravuka Sharks 10-5 in the semi-final.
