Fulton Hogan Hiways Provides Pathway For Promotion

A significant part of the Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) operation is the capacity building, to provide career development opportunities for staff.
General Manager, Patrick Keenan said the company has introduced a programme that includes on-the-job training as well as workshops and seminars, which provides a pathway for promotion within the organisation.
The programme also includes bringing in road specialists from overseas, not only to enhance the quality of work, but also to share international expertise that supports the staff in their career development.
Mr Keenan said the appointment of local civil engineer, Bhan Prakash, to the position of Operations Manager is an endorsement of the programme.
Mr Prakash has 13 years experience in the roading industry.
He began with Fulton Hogan Hiways four years ago as a senior road inspector.
He was then promoted as Suva Manager, mid-2015, and managed Suva Central Area Maintenance, until his latest promotion.
Mr Prakash said, “Fulton Hogan Hiways has a good plan in training locals to develop their skills.
“I have done leadership skill training, internally, and had coaching sessions with a senior manager to get up skilled.”
Mr Keenan said, “With a staff of 488, of which 97 per cent are locals, we’re providing enhanced training, with positive results in staff development in all sectors of our work.
“We intend to continue these efforts to benefit both the JV and the wider construction and engineering industry.”
