Having a Fiji team play for the Intrust Super Premiership NSW in 2020 would provide a wonderful opportunity to perform on the big stage in Australia, says Petero Civoniceva.

The former Vodafone Fijian Bati captain and Australia rugby league legend said the Fiji National Rugby League now looks forward to the support of the Australian Government and playing for the Premiership was a missing link in the development pathway in Fiji.

He was positive the support from Australia would start soon.

“We are positioning ourselves for the 2020 entry so that’s why Australia’s financial support is the key to make it happen, I’m very excited,” he said.

Civoniceva also highlighted the interest shown by Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison towards women in sport.

He said it was a huge importance for Fiji.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity available for young girls and women in Fiji to aspire whether it’s on the rugby field or the netball court whatever the sport maybe,” he said.
