The 18-year-old of Daku, Labasa, scored 373 out of 400 – the highest mark achieved since the school was built in 1975. Nadogo Central College principal Mohammed Khan said he was proud of Vinay’s achievement and for lifting the name of the school.

“We hope that Vinay will continue his great performance and set another benchmark for the school.”

The second youngest of four siblings, Vinay wants to fulfil his parents’ dream and become a chartered accountant.

“To fulfil their dream, it is very important for me that I get the National Toppers scholarship,” Vinay said.

“My parents are sugarcane farmers and work very hard to help us get an education.

“My eldest sister is doing her teaching practical in this school, my brother is working at Vinod Patel in Labasa and my younger sister is in Year 12.

“The secret to my success is that I had equipped myself and I managed to balance family life and school work. And I thank God for all his blessings,” he said.

He scored 88 in English, 97 in Mathematics, 95 in Accounting, 92 in Economics and 93 in Computer Science.
