Woman Accused Of Stealing Sealed Packets Of Chewing Gum Fails To Appear In Court

A woman from Lami, who is charged with stealing from a supermarket, failed to appear in court yesterday because of some misunderstanding.
Sainimili Vota was supposed to appear before Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara in the Suva Magistrates Court, however Police prosecutor Sergeant Raymond Filipe told the court that Vota was not present and may have appeared in a different courtroom.
Vota is alleged to have stolen goods amounting to $304.19 from MH Superfresh on January 16, 2019 with the intention of permanently depriving MH Superfresh of their property.
The items included five 420gram sealed packets of Juicy Fruit chewing gum valued at $142, four 420gram sealed packets of Eclipse chewing gum valued at $124.80, a 420gram sealed packet of blue Eclipse chewing gum valued at $31.20, a 650 millilitre bottle of Coca-Cola valued at $2.20 and a sealed container of Petroleum jelly valued at $3.99.
The accused is in Police custody and will appear again on January 21, 2019 in the Magistrates Court.
