The Lautoka Rugby Union has secured a sponsorship deal with ICON Sporting Apparel on Monday.

This has boosted their 2019 Vodafone Vanua Challenge campaign as they target to secure a spot in next year’s Skipper Cup Premier competition with they also aim to book a spot in the HFC Bank Farebrother-Sullivan Challenge.

Lautoka head coach, Ifereimi Rawaqa said this was what the Maroons needed to boost their morale as they look forward to fulfil what they have set out to do this year.

Rawaqa said to have a sponsor is an advantage for the team as they prepare for this year’s season.

“ICON Sporting Apparel has come in at the right time because we really need to boost the morale of our team,” the former Lautoka and Flying Fijian star lock forward said.

“The aim is to win a spot in the Skipper Cup competition and try to secure a Farebrother Challenge this year.

“So with the sponsors coming in it actually motivates the players especially during training.”

Rawaqa said with the sponsorship of training jerseys and the team jerseys for the competition, a 35-member team would be selected after their 10s tournament this Saturday.

“We will select 35 players to be in the squad. So that 35, I’m going to keep for the season. It’s now up to the players to prove themselves at this weekend’s competition.”

ICON Sports Apparel director sales and marketing, Jese Gade said this was an opportunity to boost the development of rugby in the Western Division especially in Lautoka.

“We’re here for the development of rugby in the Western Division. “We want Lautoka Rugby to grow with our brand for a long term relationship,” he said.

“We’re also supplying their on-field and their off-field kit and it is a big boost and for all fans as they can now buy the Lautoka merchandise from any Icon Sports outlet.”

Over the years Lautoka Rugby has produced top international players like running fullback Joe Visei, Sunia Seru, Vili Ratudradra, Eneri Ratudradra, Osea Koliloa, Manu Valetini, Kitione Ratudradra, Naibuka Vuli, Tokoni Luvu, Rawaqa, Semi Talawadua, Samu Yalayala, Mesake Navugona, Pita Dau, Viliame Satala, Immanueli Tiko, Eliki Tiko, Apolosi Satala, Kelemedi Bola, Taniela Rawaqa and the list goes on.
