The Rewa women’s football side are hopeful of winning the 2019 Vodafone Women’s Inter-district Championship title for the first time.

The first weekend of pool competition gets underway at the Fiji FA Academy ground in Suva on Friday.

Rewa finished as runners- up at the last Women’s IDC in 2016 and this time they are hoping to go one up and hoist the title.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Rewa women’s football coach Naomi Waqanidrola said despite the unfavourable weather conditions they have been up to par with their preparations.

“Preparations are on track for the women’s side as we’ve been training for the past one month now,” she said.

“We’re expecting tough competition in the IDC as we are pooled against top teams like Suva, Labasa and Tavua.

“And all these teams will be trying their best to win since the IDC got revived after a three- year lapse.

“So, the girls are looking good to take on Tavua in their first match on Friday and they have been reminded not to underestimate any team in the pool.

“We are also excited to have two national reps playing for us like Sekola Waqanidrola and Timaima Vuniayawa.”

Waqanidrola said the plan now is to continue on from where they left off in 2016 and to go one better to win the tournament.

“The only challenge right now for the side is to keep up with our training despite the rainy weather as it affects our schedule training programme so hopefully we are hoping to ge things sorted out.

“We are urging all Rewa Football fans to please come out in numbers and support the side starting this Friday.”
