A 66-year-old woman of Davuilevu, Nasinu, is mourning the death of her husband and family breadwinner after a tragic road accident yesterday afternoon.

Vegetable seller Subba Naidu, 69, known as Pillay in his neighbourhood, died after the bus he disembarked from allegedly ran over him.

His wife, Son Kuar, 66, was at home when the accident happened.

She said she ran to the scene after being informed of the incident by a few girls who came running to her home.

When she arrived at the scene, her husband had been taken away to hospital.

She was told that after the husband got off the bus, and while crossing, he got his by the same bus.

“My last words with him in the morning were when I told him not to go for work, but he said, ‘if I stay home, I will become more sick’,” Ms Kuar said.

“He was a very friendly man, everyone in the neighbourhood knew him. He could make anyone laugh at his jokes.”

The funeral arrangements are yet to be confirmed.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted tomorrow. The couple had been married for the past 47 years and had no children.

They had been living at Davuilevu for the past 11 years.

The road death toll stands at four just 23 days into 2019.
