Workshop To Help Develop Coaches

The Ministry of Youth and Sports permanent secretary Maretino Nemani said the work of a coach is important when it comes to the development of a young athlete.

He made the comment while opening the Fiji National Sports Commissions ‘Train the Trainers’ workshop at the Latter Day Saints Church in Lami yesterday.

The three-day workshop is the second phase of ‘Train the Trainer’ programme which involves 50 youths around the 10 communities based- in the Lami area.

“I extend the appreciation of the ministry to the Fiji National Sports Commission for the organisation of these zonal workshops which in long term will create a more informed and enabled sporting coaches and administrators across the country,” he said.

“We note the establishment of the Lami Youth Network which as of now is the governing body of sports in the Lami zone, the establishment of the Delainavesi Youth Club, the strengthening of community rugby teams, the affiliation of netball and volleyball clubs into the national federations and the registration of 8 community youth clubs under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.”

Commission programme coordinator Saula Koroi said the workshop is focused on training participants on rugby coaching, netball, volleyball, baseball and badminton umpiring.
