Fitness check forces Gareth Baber to defer the naming of his squad to this morning.

The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber has moved the naming of his final 12 players to this morning.

Baber had been working with the team’s medical staff yesterday to look at the fitness of forward Paula Dranisinukula.

The experienced prop had missed the Dubai and Cape Town 7s tournaments last December due to a severe leg injury.

In an earlier interview Baber said, one of the criteria of his selection was on the conditioning element which leads to the efforts players put in the team

“That is where you need experience and leadership as well,” he said.

“You also need leadership when you go to places like New Zealand and Australia to play rugby.

“We’ve got a good balance of it in the group.”

The Welshman said he had never ruled Dranisinukula out as he’s always in contention.

“He would never be in this group if he wasn’t in contention. Paula pushed himself all the way as he is an honest and genuine gentleman.”

Baber is going to wait after this morning’s Captain’s run to officially release the names of his final 12 players.
