Singh Calls On LTA To Educate Students, Create Awareness

The Shore Buses operations manager Aman Singh has requested the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to educate school students and create awareness about vandalism.
Mr Singh made this request after one of their buses was vandalised yesterday in Lami.
The bus driver, Alvin Avin Naidu, said there was a student who threw some sort of water balloon towards a student who was outside.
“The child who was outside the bus picked up a stone and threw it at the boy who was sitting by the window and it hit the glass,” Mr Naidu said.
“The glass shattered and the boy got cuts and bruises because of the incident.
“Hence, our bus got damaged, the trips got missed and also the child got injured.”
The operations manager, Mr Singh said his driver, Mr Naidu was at the Lami Police Station to discuss who would have to pay for the damage.
“Most of our new buses are damaged through vandalism and this is costly,” Mr Singh said.
“We cannot keep bearing all these costs and we have seen a lot of cases of this sort of behaviour.
“We have educated our drivers and schools beforehand.”
Mr Singh added they had visited schools in the Lami area and other normal routes which their buses travel on to tell commuters to allow prefects to sit in each bus to monitor and control the behaviour of school students.
“We want school prefects to sit in each of the buses to monitor to see and communicate with the students in the front,” he said.
“They should advise the children the dos and don’ts while sitting in the bus.
“We are requesting if LTA can help inform schools for students not to vandalise the buses.”
