Swimming Preps On Track: Rova

The Fiji Swimming is looking forward to better their performance and lift their overall rankings in the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa from July 6-20.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Fiji Swimming president Ben Rova said preparations are on track as swimmers have been participating in international competitions as build-up towards the Games.
“Preparations are going on very well for the side as prior to the festive holidays, we had swimmers in the squad participating in Sydney’s NSW Metropolitan champs, NSW Age group champs, the FINA Short Course champs in China and earlier this month to the Anthony Moss champs in Auckland,” Rova said.
“Swimmers were given their invite letters and info briefs to the games in regards to tests and so forth.
“Our first fitness test was conducted in Suva and Nadi on January 19th, we commenced our first competition for the year.
“Our swimmers did well in the first meet with good results all round.
“We will be naming our final squad on April 22 after the Fiji Games Easter Championships and will replicate the 2019 Pacific Games swimming schedule.
“We are hoping to do well, our goal is to win more medals from our previous outing at the 2015 Games.
“We hope to pick up more gold also and finish off at third place in the swimming competition medal tally.
“Nevertheless, we have the Fiji Age Group LC championship scheduled in early May,.
“The Fiji Schools nationals at the end of May and the New Zealand Open championships in later June as build-up towards our preparations for the Pacific Games.
“There is also the Arafura Games in Australia but this is self-funding at this moment for individuals through their clubs.”
