The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team members were an instant hit with young Hamilton Fijian fans when all the teams were welcomed in Hamilton, New Zealand yesterday.

The young fans mobbed some of the reps after the formal welcome ceremony which featured three lively dances from Fijian, Tongan and Samoan cultural groups.

The Fijian reps tried to slip away quietly to have an early night and a good rest before the Hamilton 7s tournament kicks off this morning at the FMG Stadium.

A lot weigh heavily on their shoulders as defending champions. They looked relaxed and weren’t saying much.

Coach Gareth Baber said they were ready and they had done whatever was needed to be done in preparation for this tournament.

The turnout by Fijian fans, especially from young fans, indicated that there would be no lack of support for the Fijian reps.

All the fans are saying that they are confident Fiji will retain the title.

STADIUM CHECK

The Kalione Nasoko-coached side also visited the FMG Stadium and tested the surface.

Newcomers Aminiasi Tuimaba, Meli Derenalagi, Filimoni Botitu, and Terio Tamani were taken on a tour around the stadium.

FANS GATHER

Fijian fans gathered in Hamilton last night and presented their i- sevusevu to Fiji’s High Commissioner to New Zealand Filimoni Waqabaca.
