Lifter Timothy Vakuruivalu took part in the Nauru Independence Day 50th Anniversary Weightlifting tournament yesterday.

He was invited by the Nauru Weightlifting Federation in an all expenses paid trip. The Nauru Government supported the event and with the assistance of the Oceania Weightlifting Federation, Nauru Weightlifting Federation will be hosting some of the best athletes from Oceania and the Commonwealth.

Vakuruivalu is the eldest son of Weightlifting Fiji’s (WF) vice-president, Della Shaw-Elder and is competing for a spot in the team to the Junior World Championships to be held in Suva on June 1-8 and the Pacific Games in Samoa in July.

Meanwhile, the next national trials for the Pacific Games will be on February 23. Weightlifting Fiji is thankful to the Nauru Weightlifting Federation, Fiji Government, Fiji National Sports Commission, FASANOC, Sponsors, Media and the general public for their support.
