Government law is a killer to business people, says Quality Print Pte Limited’s Founder and Chairman Dewan Chand Maharaj.

He was referring to reports made regarding a letter that was issued to his staff stating that the company did not recognise the five-day Family Care leave.

He confirmed that a letter was issued to the staff and said he was not aware of the five-day family care leave.

He said they already have a 33-day leave for each staff member in a year and to add another five-day would be too much.

“But the Government has put up a law and we have to follow it.”

Mr Maharaj said they would need to re-look at the policy and abide by the law.

“I employ 200 people and own various companies, so this is not easy,” he said.

Minister for Employment Parveen Bala is aware of the issue and said that he understood that Mr Maharaj was not aware of the law.

Therefore, he would send his team to visit Quality Print Pte Limited office and create awareness.

“Every employer needs to abide by the law and everyone should respect the law,” Mr Kumar said.

He added that it was debated in Parliament.

He also said that there would be more awareness drives and statements released to employers regarding these new policies.
