The Gareth Baber-coached Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team needs nothing less than praise for retaining the Hamilton 7s title once again on Sunday.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama described the win at Fiji Airways 7s team victory at the Hamilton 7s as an ‘Awesome game played by awesome group of people’.
He hailed the performance of the Gareth Baber coached national team with great commendation.
When asked in Lautoka yesterday Bainimarama said, “Of course it was an awesome game played by awesome group of people.”
He has urged Fijians to rally behind the teams once again in the Sydney 7s this weekend.
“We hope that they will win again in Sydney,” he said.
Fiji and USA are tied on 57 points while New Zealand (54) in second spot and South Africa (44).
The Kalione Nasoko captained side is in Pool A with Samoa, England and Japan.
Calls for support : O’Connor
Fiji Rugby Union chief executive Officer John O’Connor reminded the players in Hamilton on consistency as they shift focus to Sydney this weekend.
“We told the players that the job is not done yet, they have to keep working hard and focus on winning Sydney title, they know that and that is what they will be working on,” O’Connor said.
He calls on Fijian fans in Sydney to come out in numbers and support the boys.
“ The players need your support and we are calling on all Fijian fans in Sydney to come out in numbers and support the boys and all Fijians in Fiji to keep on praying for the team,” he said.
