Mahendra Prasad Chaudhary, 55, described his late cousin as a simple, down to earth person.

Ramendra Prasad Chaudhary, 65, died following an accident on Sunday at around 2.30pm along Princes Road, opposite the Jamuna Prasad & Sons Limited.

According to Mr Mahendra, the late Mr Ramendra was a renowned local businessman who had a good relationship with everyone in the community.

“He was a caring person and even donated land to build a Police Post,” Mr Mahendra said.

Mr Ramendra is survived by three daughters and two sons.

Police said the vehicle driven by Mr Ramendra was heading to Sawani from Nausori when it collided head-on with another vehicle.

He was rushed to the Nausori Health Centre, but was pronounced dead on arrival. His wife, Sharmila Devi, 61, according to family sources, was admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in a critical condition.

Family sources said they plan to have the funeral either on Saturday or Sunday.

The road death toll currently stands at five compared to one for the same period last year. Police investigations are continuing.
