Alexandra Nandan is the first in her family to attend the University of the South Pacific (USP).

The 19-year-old is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Journalism and Politics at the USP Laucala campus and was among the many first year students attending orientation yesterday.

The youngest of  three siblings Ms Nandan,  who is from a farming background, said she was happy to be able to make her parents proud.

“My parents have been so supportive throughout my life, always encouraging us,” she said.

“Even now I think they are more excited than I am about attending USP.”

The former Khalsa College student said her experience at USP had been really good so far and she hoped to explore more in the coming days.

“I really liked USP’s environment and there is so much diversity, I think that is what I found to be the most interesting,” she said.

She also thanked the Tertiary Education Loan Scheme (TELS) for allowing her to pursue her dream.

“TELS has enabled me and many other students to study further and I am very grateful for that,’ she added.
