No Regrets, Nand Calls Moala Home

There has been no regrets since Sanjelesh Nand was transferred to Yasayasa Moala College (YMC), in Naroi, Moala from Suva in 2015.

“I came to the college in 2015 as a vice-principal and it was the first time for me to go to an island. I did not know what to expect but today I call this island my home,” Mr Nand said.

Teaching at iTaukei schools wasn’t new to Mr Nand because he previously taught at Queen Victoria School (QVS) and Naiyala Secondary School. But the lifestyle is what still amazes him.

“Working with the people of Moala is always a pleasure. Sometimes I face challenges but I was always able to overcome them,” Mr Nand said.

“Liaising with the people has never been hard for me. In 2016, I was promoted as the principal of the college

“Island food is different from what I was used to but now it is my everyday food.”

Mr Nand hopes to improve Yasayaasa Moala College to new levels in years to come.

“We have a roll of 120 students from Year 9 to Year 13. These students are from the eight villages in Moala. I am hoping to get students from Matuku and Totoya since it is a school for Yasayasa, Moala. Students after Year Eight sometimes prefer to go to Suva,” he said.

“I teach English to the seniors in the school. I have just signed a five-year contract two months ago. I plan to increase the roll of the school. I also plan to upgrade the school like Suva schools.”
