Alleged Street Mugger Remanded In Custody

 

A Suva man charged with one count of aggravated robbery pleaded not guilty at the Suva High Court yesterday.

Ratu Kanito Matagasau appeared before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

It is alleged that Matagasau, on December 31, 2018, in Suva, armed with a weapon namely a silver blade, robbed Sanjana Lata of her mobile phone.

The state counsel Sujata Lodhia informed the court that the offence was of street mugging and the weapon was used to threaten the complainant.

Justice Goundar had remanded the accused in custody on the grounds that the matter was of a serious allegation.

He informed the accused to engage a counsel and make a formal bail application.

The matter was adjourned to February 27.
