Prescott Makes Passion A Business

Twenty two-year-old, Aston Prescott made drawing his career after noticing his capabilities at the age 15.

“I was 15-years old when I started doing paintings and I was always an artist since I was young. I started tattooing when I was 16. I am self-taught,” he said.

Mr Prescott is originally from Rewa and lives in Wairua, Tamavua-i-Wai, where he operates his studio.

The studio operates four days a week; like tattoos, painting exhibitions, wood carving, graphic design, video editing and a recording studio to help local youths expose their talents.

He has designed for two international events, Oceania in 2016 and Junior Pan Swimming Pacific Competition in 2018.

“Both swimming competitions had athletes from around the world. My logo design was engraved on medals and displayed on media around the world,” he said.

He studied in Marist Brothers High School and went to Fiji National University where he took graphic design.

Mr Prescott said that his biological father left him at the age of 2 and his mom and step dad took care of him with their bare minimum resources.

“It was hard to get financial support from them so I worked hard to get to where I am today,” he said.

He added that he was inspired to be an artist because of his situation in life, when life was hard for me. He did art to pass time and forget about his hardships.

“My aunty was an artist that did oil painting, I fell in love with colors more from that moment,” he said.

Mr Prescott said that being an entrepreneur is hard work, especially when you buy everything on your own.

“One of my biggest struggles is to pay for my Studio which is in a rural area and I live in a squatter settlement, but I have no shame because I believe I will be the first youth here to have a full operating studio in a village area.”
