Year One student of Marist Brothers Primary School is believed to be the youngest victim involved in a fatal road accident so far this year.

Six-year-old Malcolm Makasiale died after he was allegedly hit by a bus yesterday morning.

The accident happened at about 7.30am at Suva Street, Toorak.

It is alleged that the Year one student was crossing in front of the bus when the accident took place.

His father, Mosese Makasiale, said it was the first time his son went by bus to school.

“Every time he used to go by car but today was the first for him to travel to school by bus,” Mr Makasiale said.

He was still in a state of shock and declined to comment further.

Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro said the driver remained in custody and the post-mortem examination would be conducted today.

The road death toll so far this year stands at six, compared with one for the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Police said yesterday that the bus driver involved in the incident is being questioned.

Education Minister Rosy Akbar visited the Makasiale family home last night.
