President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere.

Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere is proposing for the setting up of a monitoring department to look into all funded projects in Fiji.

Ratu Wiliame said there used to be a monitoring team before and whenever there was a concern raised from the people the team would feed information to the respective ministers.

“This team will be the eyes and ears of the Government and provide members of the public with correct information,” Ratu Wiliame said.

“With this in place there won’t be delays in the work and projects will be completed on time, money utilised well and everyone will be happy.

“We have a number of hotlines where people can use to lodge complaints and reveal their grievances.

“However, this is sometimes misused.

“A little investment in establishing a monitoring team will provide a bright future.

“As for the North, I feel we have a lot of service providers and we urge the Government to come across and have a feel of what the Northern Division is like.

“We have a lot of Government institutions that can conduct workshops so that at least some communities have a feel of how these government departments operate.

“At the same time it is important that they inform the public in advance of any meeting and workshop so that lot of people can attend.”
