New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters will visit Fiji at the end of this month.

New Zealand High Commissioner Jonathan Curr confirmed the visit on the NZHC Facebook page.

“Later this month will see New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters visit Fiji. This is just the start of a busy year as we work together to further deepen our relationship.”

Mr Curr also hinted about another high-level visit later this year.

It is understood that Prime Minister Jacinda Arden is likely to visit.

Fiji and New Zealand enjoy strong economic and political links.

Fiji is New Zealand’s largest trading partner in the region with a two-way trade worth a billion dollars.

New Zealand is Fiji’s second largest source of tourists.

Today marks the anniversary of the signing of New Zealand’s founding document Te Tiriti o Waitangi, The Treaty of Waitangi, in 1840.

Te Tiriti was signed by over 500 Māori rangatira (chiefs) and representatives of Queen Victoria, and forms the basis of the ongoing partnership between Māori and the Crown, and the foundation stone of dynamic, multicultural, and contemporary New Zealand.
