Twenty- four men and sixteen women’s team will feature in the 2019 Tiliva 7s and netball festival on April 25-26 at Nakasaleka District School in Kadavu.

The officials are staging the tournament this year after cancelling last year’s event due to the devastation caused by Cyclone Keni. Speaking during the official launch yesterday, event spokesperson Lynda Tabuya said they’re excited to host the tournament once again.

“We began in 2017 and then last year we were supposed to run it but unfortunately the island was affected by cyclone Keni and so it became a priority for us to take care of our people,’’ she said.

‘’This year we once again bring the tournament and God willing the weather will hold. This year we are going to bring to you something bigger and better as we’re introducing a netball competition as well.

‘’We believe in doing this we will create an opportunity to bring not just our men and women around Kadavu but teams around Fiji as well.

“We also like to acknowledge a lady from Sydney, Luse Vula who has sent some items for the tournament.

‘’And we are proud of the fact that the 2017 defending champions Uro Kadavu was captained by Terio Tamani who is now part of the Fiji 7s team.’’

Village Investment Committee official Epeli Vakatawa said they look forward to a greater and bigger tournament this year.

“Hosting the Tiliva 7s tournament in 2017 was a success to bigger audience and more team participation.

“As you all are aware of in 2017 we were supporting island rugby at its best but two years later we are including one more sport to the competition which is netball. The changing the theme shows the growth of the tournament.

“The registration fee for rugby teams would be $500 per team and netball $200 per team.

“We have total $12,600 allocated for prize money from which $5000 will be given to the cup winner.

“Whereas for netball competition we have a total of $3200 with $1500 for the winner.
