Ajanesh Lal and Shruti Sewak were appointed head boy and head girl, respectively, during Rishikul Primary School’s Prefects’ Induction ceremony on Wednesday.

With a roll number of 1451 students and 187 in kindergarten, Rishikul Primary school is the largest primary school in Fiji.
The school welcomed 134 school prefects, class captains and school heads, assistants and deputies for 2019.

Head boy Ajanesh said it was a big achievement for him to have been given the position in such a large school.

“I was the assistant head boy last year but students can build their leadership skills over time so I was not sure if I would be selected this year,” he said.

“It was a challenge because there are people who are better than you and who can do their duties better so you have to work harder than them.”

The 13-year-old from Delainavesi hopes to become an aircraft engineer in the future but is currently focussed on the Dux prize.
Head girl Shruti Sewak was class captain for six years before becoming the assistant head girl and then rising to her current position.

“I am happy and excited to take on this role,” said the teenager from Nakasi.

“I dedicate it to my mother Saleshni Devi who is my role model and the person who has been motivating me the most.”
