Labasa Sangam: Head Prefects Excel For Parents’ Sake

Newly inducted head prefects of Labasa Sangam College, Kritivaan Gounder and Atiqa Nazakat are happy that their achievement will make their parents proud.
Kritivaan, 18, the son of a sugarcane farmer at Qelewaqa, Labasa, said he was surprised to chosen by the teachers.
A similar sentiment was shared by Atiqa, 18, a daughter of a carpenter from Tuatua, Labasa.
“Labasa Sangam College is a famous school in Vanua Levu and many wish to study here because it has produced good academic results over the years,” Kritivaan said.
“My aim as a headboy is to work in unity with the teachers, 84 prefects and 800 students from Year Nine to Year 13.”
The youngest of two siblings aspires to become an aircraft engineer with the aim to give a better future to his parents.
“Performing the role of a head boy in a prestigious school I keep reminding myself to study hard to get better marks in order to get a scholarship, That is a challenge for me,” he said.
“For this reason I look up to Portugal Football team captain Cristino Ronaldo, although coming from a poor background he earned a good name and he is confident to lead his team.
“I am inspired by his work and background and I am confident I will be able to achieve my aim.”
Head girl Atiqa aspires to become a nurse because it is her father’s dream. She is thankful to the teachers for their faith in her to be a leader.
“Being a Muslim and coming from a poor background, the teachers’ selection have proven that they treat everyone equally and with respect,” the younger of two siblings said.
