The Fiji Roads Authority has completed the upgrading of the traffic signal lanterns to LED’s, but still have more work to do.

The sites which have been upgraded are:

  •  Lakeba Street/Ratu Mara Road intersection;
  •  Grantham Road/Kings Road intersection;
  •  Nabua / Kings/ Luke Road intersection;
  •  Cunningham intersection;
  •  Center Point Intersection;
  •  Kinoya/Khalsa road Intersection and
  •  Laqere/King’s road intersection.

The Samabula intersection is one of the busiest, it said and upgrades needed to be done, but planned properly during off-peak hours.

General manager for the in-house electrical team, Musheer Khan said: “The FRA team is now working at the Fiji National University (FNU) Samabula intersection and anticipate on completing this work in two months’ time,” he said.

Apart from the upgrading works, Mr Khan said the FRA would soon be tendering out the major upgrade of the existing traffic signals in Suva Central Business District (CBD), Lautoka CBD as well as new installation of traffic signals at the high priority intersections and pedestrian crossings.

“Whilst the FRA continues to improve its electrical infrastructure, it’s biggest concern is careless drivers.The upgraded traffic signal at Laqere/King’s Road intersection had been damaged three times already because vehicle accidents.”
