Gold For Grammar: Singh

It was an overwhelming moment for 18-year-old Priyanka Singh after winning gold in the senior girls 800metres event at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.
The former Levuka Public School student clocked 3 minutes beating some of the elite athletes during the Suva Grammar School interhouse athletics competition.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Singh who had won silver in the Coca-Cola Games last year is confident to win gold this year.
“I am really happy for the win today and hoping to improve my time in the upcoming zone and the Coca-Cola Games,” she said
“Last year I won silver in the intermediate girl’s 800 metres event during the Coca- Cola Games and this year I am going for gold.
“Last year I attended Levuka Public where I was identified for my performance and now representing Suva Grammar and I am hopeful of doing my best.”
Suva Grammar School principal Segran Pillay was happy with the turnout.
“We encouraged maximum participation at the interhouse meet today and close to 400 plus athletes participated,” Pillay said.
“However, some of the students couldn’t compete for religious reason and will be able to attend our second trials in week 6.
“We are happy to have the interhouse conducted at a much earlier date so it will give ample time for the athletes to prepare for the upcoming zonal meet.
“Previously, we have been finishing off in the top five positions in the Coca-Cola Games and there is no pressure on us but we hope to do our best.
“I would like to thank our stakeholders, Parents and Teachers Association for their never ending support in organising and making this interhouse possible.”
