Sikeli Builds From Tough Life, Anaseini Will Show Worth

Life’s struggles can be an opportunity for people to build their character.
This rings true for newly appointed head boy of Nabua Secondary School, Sikeli Lui Hang.
Sikeli was named head boy and Anaseini Tavo as head girl during the school’s prefects’ induction on Friday.
Sikeli knows there are going to be many hurdles this year, but he is prepared to tackle them with confidence.
“I was at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School since 2017 and the whole of last year I didn’t attend school because of the situation at home.
“This year at Nabua it came as a surprise when chosen to be head prefect of the school.”
Life has not been easy because he was brought up by his mother who sacrificed a lot to make ends meet for her three children.
“When I was small, my parents separated. My father left us and went to the United States of America,” Sikeli said.
“My mother works for a garment factory at Valelevu.”
“I want to make my mother proud by achieving something in life. I know the struggles that I went through will make me a better person in life.
“While I am empowered by teachers and my mum to bring change to the school I know that change begins in me.”
The 20-year-old, who plans to attend the Fiji National University next year, wants to become an Automotive Engineer.
Head girl, Anaseini said, she was lucky to be given an opportunity to be head girl of the school.
She will give her best to fulfill all duties and responsibilities entrusted to her.
Ms Tavo aims to become an officer with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.
A total of 24 form captains, 13 senior prefects and four deputies were inducted at Nabua Secondary School.
The deputy head boy is Kelepi Sevakasiga while the deputy head girl is Vereivalu Tamani.
