Fiji Roads Authority: Works On Roads For Better Access For Navosa Students

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) and contractors are undertaking remedial work in the Navosa area.
This is after a social media post on Facebook where students were seen pulling a truck, being their only source of transportation to and from school, with a rope because of improper roads.
The students are from Nasauvakarua and Nabutautau villages and attend Navatusila District School and Thomas Baker Secondary School.
Meanwhile, in the same province of Navosa another issue faced by residents at Namatewale settlement is flooding.
FRA is currently looking into building a bridge soon because of flooding in the area.
It is alleged that the driver of the truck tried to cross over the bridge, but because of the strong currents, the truck unfortunately was washed away and the driver managed to jump out of the moving vehicle.
A post of the incident went viral of facebook a few weeks ago.
FRA Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Moore confirmed the new bridge would be more effective to the villagers, especially during adverse weather.
“The FRA is aware. The bridge to replace the crossing is within a contract that is about to be awarded,” Mr Moore said.
“FRA contractors mobilised to the site. We will restore access once floodwaters recede.”
FRA has raised its concerns about warnings about flooded bridges, including the ones in Navosa.
“Please do not risk your lives and stay out of flooded waters.”
