Prime Minister Challenges Opposition To Maintain Integrity

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday challenged members of the Opposition to maintain the integrity of Parliament and refrain from spreading misinformation.
While delivering his ministerial statement, Mr Bainimarama said Government plans to present the Fijian people with facts.
“You will notice Mr Speaker that I spend the time outlining the facts of our accomplishments in great detail,” Mr Bainimarama said.
“And this is exactly what the Fijian people can expect from my Government.”
“You see me doing it here and you see me doing it in videos I post to my Facebook page and through my Noda Prime Minister programme on Radio Fiji One.”
He said FijiFirst would present its long-term vision in clear terms and speak directly on how it sought to achieve its goals.
“We will not use Parliament as a podium for misleading the Fijian people and I wish I could say the same for members of the opposition,” he said.
“Just last sitting honourable speaker, honourable Kuridrani was caught red handed spreading misinformation.
“He was, of course, fact checked surely after, but that is not the first time.”
He said he would highlight the misrepresentation and deceit shown by the Opposition in his Noda Prime Minister programme.
“You do not stop being MPs when you leave this chamber,” Mr Bainimarama said.
“Your behaviour on social media or around the grog bowl should reflect that Honourable Bulitavu.
“And lies on your videos, this behaviour is despicable and it is below the standard elected officials should hold themselves to.
“It is unpatriotic.”
Mr Bainimarama challenged the Leader of Opposition to hold his members accountable for displaying such behaviour.
