Works on the Fiji National Provident Fund’s (FNPF) Nadi Retail Complex have been halted.

Developers FNPF and builders Pacific Building Solutions (PBS) both blame the other.

FNPF chief executive officer Jaoji Koroi said Pacific Building Solutions has breached the terms of the contract.

However, the specific terms are confidential between the contracted parties.

He further added that PBS ceased operations in December 2018. In terms of the successor of the project, Mr Koroi said FNPF is in the process of finalising the project scope for completion.

A statement from PBS said: “Irreconcilable differences between us and FNPF related to a number of technical and contractual issues in addition to a breach of contract by FNPF resulted in our demobilisation from the Nadi Retail Development site in December 2018.

“We had completed approximately 80 per cent of the construction work to date.

“We are in communication with FNPF and have offered our full co-operation and assistance with any missing information they might need to complete the building without further delay or unnecessary costs which can be mitigated.”

Mr Koroi said: “FNPF is targeting the end of 2019 to complete the project.”

About the FNPF

The estimated $23 million retail development project is located on the corner of Nadi Main Streeet and Koroivolu Avenue.

This was the site of the old Nadi Hotel.

Once completed, the three-storey building will offer two levels of retail space and one level for office space. The project was part of fund’s investment rehabilitation programme, which has also seen the redevelopment of a number of other properties belonging to the fund.
