Confucius Institute Celebrates Spring Festival

This is the seventh year the Confucius Institute (CI) at the University of the South Pacific (USP) is celebrating Spring Festival.

The institute organised the Chinese New Year celebration with all the staff, students and friends from all walks of life.

Lecturer Yagn Guishuang said Chinese New Year was the most special festival for all Chinese.

“Chinese New Year is a special holiday to reunite with family and friends.

“During New Year, all family members will get together like Christmas, Eid and Diwali.

“We are so delighted to celebrate this important event with Fijians. “Although we miss our family back in China, Fiji is our second hometown.

“We like life in Fiji and we have learnt a lot from the local culture.” Institute director, Hui Yang thanked the Social Course students for their support.

“CI will continue to teach Mandarin and Chinese culture and we look forward to having new faces every year.”

USP Dean of Faculty of Arts Law and Education, Akanisi Kedrayate said: “It was an honour to celebrate Chinese New Year.

“We appreciate the Chinese culture.”
