Fiji 7s Coach: Nasoko Is Still Captain
Kalione Nasoko.

Yasawa flyer Kalione Nasoko will remain captain of the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team to the USA 7s in Las Vegas followed by the Canada 7s in Vancouver.

This was confirmed by head coach Gareth Baber after the national 7s team’s training session at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka yesterday.

Baber made the announcement a day after Nasoko had pleaded guilty at the Nadi Magistrates Court for driving under the influence of liquor early this month.

“Yes, at the moment, Kalione has done well, I know he has his own personal issues but he is dealing with them,” Baber said.

“Obviously, when you look at a captain, somebody who can put his hands up and say he has made a mistake as well.

“At the same time as being a leader to others. He knows his responsibility and he knows his position within the community in Fiji and he knows that he needs to honour that.”

Baber said Nasoko has gained his confidence once again after they had several conversations at the team camp.

“I had several conversations with him on that. He is very apologetic for what he has done for this group, for his family and the name of Fiji,”

“He (Nasoko) knows that he has a name to live up to. He is a great leader as he talks well to the players and he understands the game.

“He puts his body on the line whenever he is on the rugby field. When he was wrong, he puts his hands up and he needs to move on and to lead his country.”

The side had warm-up matches against Ratu Filise, who fielded former 7s playmaker Amenoni Nasilasila, and BLK Nadroga.
