Man Accused Of Raping Two Boys Remains In Custody

A27-year-old man facing multiple sexual offences will remain in custody, the High Court in Suva has ordered.

The accused appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe on Monday. He is charged with four counts of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three counts of attempted rape.

The alleged incidents occurred between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017 in the Central Division.

The complainants in the matter are two boys aged 16 and 17.

The accused pleaded not guilty to all nine counts as charged.

State prosecutor Swastika Sharma sought for 14 days to prepare and file proposed agreed facts in one month’s time to finalise the pre trial issues.

She also told the court that the accused and two complainants were not related, but were from the same village.

Defence lawyer Shantel Hazelman told the court the accused was in remand and his bail application was submitted to the court.

The case was adjourned for pre trial conference (PTC) on March 18 before Justice Daniel Goundar.
