Mother Of Six Hopeful To Be In National Expo

Karalaini Qalisa is striving to make the cut for the National Women’s Expo later this year.
This is the second time the mother of six has taken part in the two-day Central Division Craft Show. The event is at the Ratu Sukuna Park.
Her husband is a fisherman and she earns extra money to make ends meet with the handicraft she makes.
The 39-year-old of Vunuku in Rewa, said she was excited of the opportunity to take part in the event and was optimistic about making good sales.
She is a member of Mai Vale Women’s Group who get together and make various crafted items to sell and showcase in their district.
Ms Qalisa displayed handmade necklaces, decorated bottles which can be used for hanging lights and table decoration, traditional baskets which can be used for multiple purposes.
“It is my second time I am taking part in the craft show. It is very good for us who are trying to earn a living from our skills,” she said.
“I was inspired to take part so I could gain experience in the crafts and showcase to earn a good living for my family and me. I am self-employed and a small business like this generates good money for my family.”
She said her inspiration came from her grandmother and aunt who are very skilled in the artwork.
“I wanted to learn and do something on my own and to help put food on the table and this year, I have aimed to take part in the National Women’s Expo for the first time as well,” Ms Qalisa said.
