Naitanui Shares Mantra Which Has Kept Her Going

Litia Naitanui lives by a one-line mantra which has kept her forging ahead despite her physical limitations.
“I once read a book which said ‘you should live full and die empty’, and it means to me that all the talents that I have, I should share and teach the people around me,” she said.
Ms Naitanui who is wheelchair bound was showcasing her craft at the Central Division Craft Show at the Ratu Sukuna Park yesterday.
She is from Vutia, Rewa, and has been participating in the bigger National Women’s Expo since its establishment in 2014.
“This work improves the daily life of mine and others by preventing poverty for us especially women with disability,” she said.
“People should not look at us with disability but look at our potential and the capability of what we can do. Don’t look at my disability but look at the ability that I have.
“I live with my four sisters who also have physical difficulties. Last year I had an accident which left me with a broken ankle bone and I have been on a wheelchair since then,” Ms Naitanui said.
She said women with disabilities should not look at it in a negative way but look at what you can do.
“Showcase to the people of what you can do,” she said.
“If I can, so can all the women with disabilities do too because we have unique talents.
“I make the items and sell them to generate income for my family.
“It helps us with the financial constraints we face at times.
“I also do empowering and skills training through the women with Disability Group Rewa Branch and Women’s Group in Rewa within the nine districts,” Ms Naitanui said.
