Top Writer Wins Third Prize

Dhirendra Prasad has won the Letter to the Editor prize for the third time.
Yesterday he received his prize for the month of July.
The former teacher was proud and said this was a platform where he was able to highlight and share his views on pressing issues on the environment, loss of values and tradition in society.
“As a writer I keep my children in the field of writing, I mainly write on some burning issues and as a result I am receiving this award and the many other awards that I have received in the past from my letters.
“The issues that I write about are on the environment, values and educational ones that suits the younger generation.
“I believe most of my students have gone to higher studies through my inspiration of writing .”
He said he was a teacher at heart now studying for his Doctorate in Education under a scholarship at the University of Fiji.
“I get told by teachers that they use my writing in their teaching in highlighting issues and ideas in expository essays,” Mr Prasad said.
“I’m proud that my writings are useful for educational purposes.”
“A message to other writers is not to be too critical without ethics of issues and people.
“When people write about burning issues and people we need to be correct, this is especially when we are critical.
“In my writing I make sure that I have evidence on things I am writing about.”
Mr Prasad has won the letter to the editor for the month of July on “Modern Singapore”.
The award was given in partnership with the Fiji Sun and Courts.
