National and Ba football defender Avinesh Waran Suwamy believes discipline will be the key in 2019 OFC Champions League which gets underway in Vanuatu on Saturday

The Men in Black play Team Wellington on Saturday at 3pm, Erakor Goden Star of Vanuatu on Tuesday and Kiwi FC of Samoa on Friday.

Suwamy made the comment as the side departed yesterday carrying the Fijian flag after Lautoka FC failed to qualify from Group B over the weekend. Three Lautoka players were sent off in the final pool game against AS Central Sport last Saturday at Churchill Park.

“We need all the players to play 90 minutes of disciplined football,” said the bank officer who made his debut for Ba in 2005.

“We have really prepared well for the O-League. The coaches have done their part and it’s our turn to deliver. It should be a good outing for Ba.

“Looking at the pool we are in a tough one but nothing is impossible. We will go there and give our 100 per cent.”

He knows Ba fans want the side to make the cut for the quarterfinal.

“Since 2005 I have been playing in the Champions League and it is always a step above the rest. It is a different level compared to the Vodafone Premier League and Champions League brings the best from Pacific island players,” Suwamy said.

“Fans just want Ba to do it for Fiji. We will give our best in the three pool games.”
