Another Choice. Supermarket Competition Heats Up In Capital

The intensive competition in high-end supermarkets in Suva grew again yesterday.

Fresh Choice at Garden City entered a market that already includes NewWorld IGA, Extra, MH Supermarket, Joe’s Farm and ShopNSave in Nakasi.

P Meghji Group of Companies, the owner of this upper market Fresh Choice are happy with this $4million investment.

The Attorney- General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum was present to witness the opening of this supermarket.

It was officially opened by Paradise Beverages marketing manager Joe Rodan.

Fresh Choice will have an international standard butcher, café, liquor shop and a bakery.

With retails shops in Nadi, Lautoka and Ba, Fresh Choice Supermarket Executive director Romit Meghji said this is a new venture and the location will complement the various outlets that are in the area.

 

Competitive prices

He added the prices will be competitive and the products are of diverse range.

“We were based at Garden City but were trading as a liquor shop under the brand P Meghji Trading Limited,” Mr Meghji said.

“It was fortunate for us to that the landlord at Garden City was passionate of getting different sorts of businesses and gave us the opportunity to open our shop here.

“There are a few restaurants banquet hall, few exhibition centre which will complement this whole new development.

“We believe our prices will be competitive and there will always be ups and downs in prices.”

Future plans

Mr Meghji said they are also planning to open a new supermarket in Lautoka.

“To the people of Suva this is a one stop shop for everyone, with the meat, international bakery, coffee liquor butcher and all the products that are found here. We are planning to open our third branch in Lautoka in July, but we are in the process of having our shop setup.”

Mr Rodan said the opening also shows the strong relationship between Paradise Beverages with P Meghji.

“Price is not a factor when you come Fresh Choice Supermarket and this is what Suva needs with its whole range of products.”
