Two students of Labasa Special School have been chosen to represent Fiji at the Special Olympic World Games 2019 in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, from April 6-23.

This was confirmed by Labasa Special School head teacher Mukesh Chand during a Youth Awards night at the school on Saturday night.

“We are happy that this time round, the selectors have chosen our students and they are in Suva for their training,” Mr Chand said.

“We are proud of Devina Goundar and Kisen Vishal Chand, who will be representing Fiji.”

Mr Chand said they supported and encouraged the duo in making a name for themselves in the international arena.

“We are proud of the two and we know that they will do their best. They have been training a lot. In Labasa we do not have the proper training facilities for the two,” he said.

“Devina is playing table tennis and Kisen is running in the 400 metres and will take part in the long jump. It is the first time students from our school have been selected and we hope this would encourage the other students.”

Labasa District Council chairperson Mohammed Shanil donated $250 towards the two athletes towards their trip and wished them the very best.
