Lee Aims To Play In New Zealand Open

Professional golfer Sam Lee aims to make his mark at the 2019 New Zealand Open.
The Nadi-based golfer will be playing in the qualifying rounds today.
Hosted at two spectacular golf courses Millbrook Resort and The Hills on Feb 28 – Mar 3, the tournament incorporates a unique Pro-Am format that brings together a prestigious blend of professional and amateur golfers.
The New Zealand Open is a Tier One event co-sanctioned by the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia and the Asian Tour, and in partnership with the Japan Golf Tour.
The tournament will include a minimum field of 140 amateurs and 140 professionals playing alongside one another. The professional golfers will compete for the New Zealand Open title while simultaneously a pairing of one professional and one amateur will play a best-ball format for the New Zealand Pro-Am Championship.
“If I qualify then I play the same week. If not I go to Christchurch for the NZ PGA Championship,” he said.
“I am currently sitting at 6th reserve for the NZ PGA so I may have to qualify for that event as well.
“Since I don’t have a good category to play on the Australasian PGA Tour, I will have to qualify for most events.”
There are four spots today at Cromwell for the NZ Open qualifying where the field is about 60 players.
“Few guys have qualified to play on the Australasian PGA Tour already. I’ve been preparing hard for the last two months, So hopefully I shoot a good score and qualify which is the first objective. I will find out whether the preparation was good or not,” Lee added.
