Man Sentenced To More Than 10 Years In Jail For Raping Ex-Wife

A man has been sentenced to 10 years and nine months imprisonment for raping his ex-wife.
It is alleged that when the incident happened they were legally married.
He was found guilty of one count of Criminal Intimidation, Assault with intent to Commit Rape and Rape at the High Court in Suva.
Justice Chamath Morais, while delivering his sentence on Friday, said rape was the most serious crime and that the court denounced such practices.
The man entered a not-guilty plea from the start of the trial, but the three assessors found the evidence of prosecution as truthful and reliable.
They unanimously found the accused guilty of all the counts.
The court also heard that the incident happened on June 1st, 2013 in Navua.
A non-parole period of nine years and nine months has been set.
