To say that it is definitely not a situation we want in Fiji now or anytime in the next 1000 years is not only premature but it just shows how out of touch Ro Filipe is with the LGBTI community in his homeland!

Ro Filipe Tweet

Simon Hazelman, Savusavu

A rather contradictory tweet from Ro Filipe Tuisawau considering LGBTI community activity in Fiji!

Ro Filipe tweeted his displeasure about New Zealand parliamentarian Tamati Coffey’s announcing that he was expecting a baby with his long-term partner, Tim Smith.

To say that it is definitely not a situation we want in Fiji now or anytime in the next 1000 years is not only premature but it just shows how out of touch Ro Filipe is with the LGBTI community in his homeland!

While gay marriage is non-existent in Fiji, many gay couples are literally living together as husband and wife. One has got to be blind and deaf not to notice! This has been happening for decades now Ro Filipe!z

In such a case it would be sensible to keep one’s mouth shut. Just because one wants to say it doesn’t mean one should say it!

Too much said, too soon.

Ovalau Weightlifting

Ronnie Chang, Nadi

With hints of much sadness, the 2018 Aust Commonwealth Games’ fairy tale of Ovalau’s very own Gold medalist could not continue, unabated, in Fiji, for rightful or wrongful reasons.

It is all needless history now.

Professional sporting counselling at the highest levels might have afforded us all a brighter continuity, in Fiji, of Eileen’s acclaimed weightlifting prowess.

Was enough done? We might not know.

Public perceptions are, without doubt, powerful indicators.

After all that is said and done, as one door closes, another proverbial one, has opened with admiration for our proud Ovalau lass, Eileen.

We wish you well as you prepare to head for greener pastures in the Land of Oz. Every good health, fortune, success and blessings be yours, to reap. Remain humble. Always remember Ovalau, your roots to weightlifting fame and fortune.

Go Girl!!! The world’s weightlifting stage awaits your arrival, keenly.

Curse Excuse

Amenatave Yaconisau, Delainavesi

I agree with Nemani Delaibatiki (FS 25/2) that people must not lay blame on tradition for the sense of hopelessness and self-pity maligning them, by burning traditional artefacts.

I think the departed souls of loved ones would wish them all that is best not harmful. But he must also realize that it’s only done after extensive consultation with the congregation on its suitability and is not forced.

Analysis Ganja (Marijuana )

Sukha Singh, Labasa

Could someone tell us how are the Marijuana plants analysed.

Do they smoke the leaves to find out?

I agree with Simon Hazelman on why take the whole lot of plants to the Lab.
