The Labasa football team are hopeful that striker Napolioni Qasevakatini recovers in time for their Vodafone Premier League clash against Tavua.

The former Suva striker has not played after he was injured against Rewa, early this month.

Labasa coach Anand Sami told SUNsports that according to medical report Qasevakatini has not fully recovered.

“Right now there’s a big competition among the players as they are fighting for a spot in the 22-member squad,” the former national football star midfielder said.

“We are also working on building up young players to join the team but after our training this week we’ll find out what the doctor says about Qasevakatini on whether he can play or not.” Sami said.

“On Friday, we will be announcing the team that will be playing against Tavua. We are not taking Tavua lightly.”

Labasa Football manager Nilesh Lal said Qasevakatini has been doing light training but will undergo a fitness test on Thursday.

“There is a 90 percent chance of him joining the team against Tavua this Saturday,” Lal added.
