Think of the all the tyres that end up in landfills, are dumped in drains, rivers, in the sea and are harmful to the environment.

If people took the initiative of using them for innovative purposes, what a better place Fiji would be!

That’s exactly what Joe Captain has done to these neglected tyres.

The 34-year-old of Raiwai, Suva, has managed to built a fence with these as well as use it in the garden of his modern home in Raiwai.

“I just wanted to try new things and I started doing this from last year December,” he said.

“I just wanted to recycle tyres because they do not look good laying around.

“This also prevents mosquitoes from breeding.

I encourage everyone to recycle tyres at their homes.

People can make chairs, steps, dog bed, and garden decoration from unused tires.”

He hopes to further this with adding paint to the tyres.

Mr Captain said that he wanted to make good use of tyres because he had seen people just throwing it carelessly.

He hopes his work would encourage others to do the same.
